Weekly Update - 07.21.21

We’re entering the final weeks of our summer reading program now but you still have time to meet your goals, win some raffles, see some of our special performers, and attend our in-person or virtual programs!

Depending on when you read this column, you can still catch Steve’s Snaketuary out at our Haughton Branch on July 19 at 11:00am. As long as you don’t suffer from ophidiophobia (fear of snakes), this is a visit that is both entertaining and educational and we love it when Steve can stop by one of our locations to teach us about these reptiles. Plus, you can always call the Snaketuary if you have a rogue reptile hanging out somewhere you’d prefer it wasn’t.

If you do suffer from ophidiophobia, or you’re just not a fan of snakes, perhaps you’d prefer to check out the Amazing Geebo, a magician. He will be making the rounds starting on July 20 at 10:00am at our Aulds Branch before heading up to Benton for a 2:00pm program and he’ll wrap up his day at East 80 at 5:00pm. If Tuesday isn’t a good day for you, then you can catch him at Haughton, Tooke, or Plain Dealing on Wednesday, July 21 at 11:00am, 2:00pm, or 5:00pm respectively.

There’s also still time to join in with one of our various book clubs if you love the opportunity to socialize and discuss your favorite (or least favorite) aspects of a book. Central, Tooke, East 80, Haughton, and Plain Dealing all offer book clubs for our over-18 book lovers. Plus, we hold an off-site book club at PJ’s Coffee House (2119 Airline Dr.) on the first Friday of each month at 6:30pm. If you’re looking for a book club geared toward a younger audience, check out the tween book clubs hosted at our Haughton and Tooke Branches. These are for the 9-12 age range and if you have any questions about book selections you can call or stop in to those branches for additional info!

Games, activities, crafts and more are going on system-wide too. There are come & go crafts at Aulds, take-&-make crafts at Central, and bingo at Haughton and Tooke, just to name a few. If you’re looking for something a little different, how about joining Haughton on Facebook for their Wild Treats Cooking Show? This show goes live on Tuesdays at 2:00pm and there’s just enough time to catch the last one on July 20th. Or check out our Tooke Branch where teens can join a gardening club where they will learn fun tips and tricks for growing a variety of fruits and vegetables.

I’m running low on column inches now, so for more info on these programs and so many more, go check out our website calendar or give your library branch a call to find out what fun they have planned!
