Northwest Louisiana’s African American riding clubs grew from a long tradition of African Americans working with horses in the region, yet their existence defies prevalent stereotypes of “cowboy culture”. Dr. Rolonda Teal will share her research on Riding Clubs in Northwest Louisiana and their function as mutual aid societies, and the sense of community they create.

Dr. Teal has a Ph.D. in Forestry (Human Dimensions) from Stephen F. Austin State University. As the founder of Cultural Lore, an anthropological consulting agency, she has worked with numerous cultural groups.
